Hilbert Village Board approves wastewater computer upgrade, licensing actions and routine financial items

The Hilbert Village Board on Feb. 11 approved routine administrative and financial items, authorized an equipment purchase for the wastewater treatment facility and cleared a set of licensing and personnel actions.
The meeting opened at 6 p.m. with President Tom Roehrig presiding. The board voted to approve the village meeting minutes and Fire Department minutes, accept treasurer reports for the village and Fire Department, and pay the claims presented. Those motions passed by voice vote or consensus.
Why it matters: the board’s approvals keep routine municipal operations funded and compliant ahead of upcoming elections and spring projects.
Among substantive actions, the board approved a quote up to $14,921.12 to replace an aging computer at the wastewater treatment facility. Kim Plate, who presented the request, said the facility computer is about five years old and staff wanted to upgrade before vendor prices increase on March 1. The motion to accept the quote passed (moved by Collins; seconded by Stenklyft).
The board also approved allowing two master electrician firefighters to perform electrical work at the Fire Station to install hose reels and to address garage-door issues, after McClone Insurance advised that, if licensed firefighters do the work without extra pay, the Village’s coverage would apply. The board approved attendance for five firefighters to attend a March 6–8 convention in Middleton, Wis., as budgeted.
Licensing and election-related items included approval of operator license applicants, and a transfer of a Class B license from Midwest Five Investment to the new owner of 4th & 5 Tavern, LLC effective Feb. 21, 2025. The board also approved Resolution 2025-02 to establish the polling place for the Feb. 18 Spring Primary (roll call vote: Loose, Collins, Hunter, Nolan, Pulley, Stenklyft and Roehrig — all yes) and accepted Martin Seckel as an election worker for the remainder of the term.
Other administrative updates: Kieso and consultant Ginny Hinz said they established separate revenue and expense account numbers for the First Responder unit as part of 2025 budget maintenance. Kieso presented the February tax payment settlement, noting the Village Clerk’s Office processed about $1.6 million in tax payments and that payouts will be sent to Calumet County, Fox Valley Technical College and the Hilbert School District.
The board also approved Recycling Committee and Health Board Committee minutes and set the Large Item Drop-Off event for Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
