SHELDON R-VIII board approves salary changes, sets meal prices and schedules tax-levy hearing

At its July 8 meeting the SHELDON R-VIII board approved an amended salary schedule, adopted a local wellness policy, set 2026–27 student and adult meal prices, awarded milk and fuel bids, set substitute pay at $120/day, and scheduled the tax-levy hearing for Aug. 25, 2026.
The SHELDON R-VIII school board met on July 8, 2026, in the FACS Room and approved a series of routine budget, policy and procurement items for the 2026–27 school year, including an amended salary schedule and new meal prices.
Board action came early in the meeting. After Mr. Lamb called the session to order at 8:10 a.m., trustees voted 7-0 to approve the agenda and a consent agenda that included routine items. The board unanimously approved an amended salary schedule for 2026–27 after a motion by Mr. Lamb and a second from Mrs. Claflin.
The board adopted a local wellness policy submitted by Mr. Post, the district administrator who presented the policy. Trustees also set meal prices for 2026–27: elementary breakfast $1.90; high-school breakfast $2.15; reduced breakfast $0.30; adult breakfast $2.50; elementary lunch $2.40; high-school lunch $2.90; reduced lunch $0.40; adult lunch $3.90. The motion to set prices passed 7-0.
On procurement, the board accepted the milk bid from Highland Dairy and the fuel bid from MFA for the coming school year, each by unanimous vote. The board also set substitute teacher pay at $120 per day for 2026–27.
Other business included setting the Class of 2027 graduation date for May 16, 2027, with flexibility to change if required; adopting edits to Policies 4310, 4320, 4330 and Regulation 4320 (including language noting the superintendent’s discretion in case-by-case decisions); and setting the district’s Tax Levy Hearing for Aug. 25, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. All recorded motions passed 7-0.
During the community forum, Mrs. Byram conveyed thanks from the Cassidy family for school support at CJ’s celebration of life; Mr. Nance mentioned a student opportunity at the MPAA Camp during Farm Fest in October; and Mr. Lamb said Dr. Sam Alexander contacted him seeking public-school support for his campaign. Mr. Post updated the board on facilities work after hiring a new custodian and reviewed the CSIP. He also delivered both the principal’s and legislative reports recorded in the minutes.
At 9:11 a.m. the board moved into closed session under RSMO 610.021 to discuss personnel matters (subsections (3) and (13)); the motion passed on a recorded roll call with all members voting yes. The board left closed session and adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
