The Village Board held first readings on Jan. 6 of two communications policies designed to govern official social-media and media communications.
Policy 2026-01, the Village Social Media Policy, was read for the first time. The policy would set guidelines for the formation and use of Village social media sites and identify expectations for protecting the integrity of official information. Roberta Rather appeared before the board during this item; the minutes do not record verbatim remarks.
Policy 2026-02, the Village Media Policy, also received a first reading. That policy would identify employees authorized to speak for the Village on significant communications to reduce conflicting or unauthorized releases. The board set a Special Village Board meeting for Jan. 20, 2026, at 5:15 p.m. for a social media presentation on a motion by President Richard Heidel with a second by Trustee Melissa Tanke; the voice vote to set the meeting was 4-0.
Both policies remain at first reading; no adoption votes of the policies themselves were recorded in the minutes.
