County designates Event Center as emergency evacuation site and appoints PIOs

Franklin County commissioners on April 13 designated the county Event Center as an official emergency evacuation site and appointed two Public Information Officers for disaster response.
Lamont Doney requested the designation, noting that the Franklin County Medical Center intends to use the Robinson Building as its evacuation site. After brief discussion, commissioners voted unanimously to designate the Event Center as an emergency evacuation site.
Commissioners also heard that the county's Emergency Evacuation Plan needs a formally designated Public Information Officer (PIO). Lamont Doney said that in the absence of a formal appointee he would assume PIO responsibilities but asked the board to name someone. The board appointed both Lamont Doney and Commissioner Zach Stewart as PIOs for disaster and emergency situations; the minutes note that Stewart is the county’s media representative but was not present.
Doney reminded the board that a full-scale exercise is scheduled for May 7; the Idaho Office of Emergency Management will manage scenarios and participating partners include county departments, schools, the hospital and Valley Wide. County staff will provide contact information and follow-up details for planning.
