Franklin County commissioners award contracts for fair livestock sheds

Franklin County commissioners on April 13 awarded contracts to build two livestock sheds at the county fairgrounds, approving the lowest responsive bids for concrete and steel construction.
Randy Henrie, county maintenance, presented two concrete bids and three steel-building bids. Commissioners voted unanimously to accept DJ Concrete's concrete bid of $10,740 per shed — $21,480 total — after staff review. For the steel buildings, the board accepted LS Buildings' $130,000 bid over competing offers from SS Johnson and Ellis Builders Company. Zan Bowles moved to accept both awards; Commissioner Chair Robert Swainston seconded, and votes were unanimous.
Henrie also reported ongoing courthouse remodeling work, noting sheetrock installation in the Prosecuting Attorney and Dispatch offices, completed fire sprinklers and painters scheduled to follow. The Event Center parking lot is scheduled for asphalt on May 7.
The commissioners did not attach conditions or amendments to either construction award during the meeting. The county will proceed with contracting and scheduling with the two awarded firms.
