Hilbert board accepts financial reports, notes tax collections and approves event license

At its Jan. 14 meeting the Village of Hilbert board approved routine financial and administrative business. The board accepted the treasurer's report and First Responder and Fire Department treasurer reports, and voted to pay claims as presented.
Missy Kieso reported that Calumet County's interim settlement shows more than $794,000 collected in property taxes and that the Village has collected roughly 35% of its property tax bills to date. A Department of Transportation notice showed the village's 2025 General Transportation Aid final calculation as $94,750.23, an increase of $12,358.75 from 2024; the first quarterly payment advice was also presented to the board.
On licenses, the board declined a liquor operator application after reviewing background-check concerns (motion Stenklyft; second Collins; carried). The board approved a temporary Class B license for St. Mary's for its annual All For Love event at the Community Center, scheduled for Feb. 1, 2025 (motion Loose; second Stenklyft; carried). The board also discussed the Spring Clean event scheduled for May 3, 2025 and asked the Recycling Committee to bring recommendations on logistics or fees.
Minutes show no citizen questions and no further action on police protection or unfinished business.
