Unicoi County Public Library board approves minutes, financials and flags need for increased town support

At its Jan. 22, 2026 meeting, the Unicoi County Public Library Board of Trustees approved routine minutes and financial reports and discussed municipal support for next fiscal year.
Terry Wise moved to approve the minutes listed in the record (the minutes text lists "November 2026," which appears to be a typographical error); Gail Snodgrass seconded and the motion was recorded as unanimously approved. Treasurer Jan Bowden presented the November and December 2025 financial statements; Mr. Wise moved and Ms. Bowden seconded approval of the financial report, and the motion passed unanimously.
President Cathy Griffith told trustees she had spoken with the Town of Erwin comptroller about future support and that "the yearly contribution will need to increase to allow the library to function at its current capacity," according to the minutes. The board therefore noted the funding concern as it considers next fiscal-year planning.
For compliance, the board approved the Collection Report for filing with the Tennessee Secretary of State's Office after adding the word "laws" to one statement; the board recorded the motion as carried unanimously (moved by Terry Wise, seconded by Jan Bowden).
The minutes also show the board approved a half-day closure in February so staff can attend AED training and adjourned at 7:00 p.m. The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at UCPL.
