The Unicoi County Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved a series of routine measures at its April 30 meeting in Erwin, including the March meeting minutes and the March financial report, and approved changes to library policy and insurance coverage.
Cathy Griffith, president of the board, called the meeting to order at 6:09 p.m. Members present were Vice President Gail Snodgrass, Treasurer Jan Bowden and Trustee Terry Wise; Andy Frazier (secretary), Jenna Lafever and Stana Donnelly were listed as absent in the meeting minutes.
On a motion by Terry Wise, seconded by Jan Bowden, the board approved the minutes from the March 2026 meeting. Jan Bowden presented the March financial statement; the board agreed that financial figures would not be quoted in the minutes and that the full financial statements will be attached to board packets. On a motion by Gail Snodgrass, seconded by Terry Wise, the March financial report was approved unanimously.
Under new business the board renewed the library’s insurance policy. The minutes state the policy renewal included an increased premium and expanded coverage that now includes owned and non‑owned vehicles used by staff during library business. The board also amended its circulation policy to set DVD checkouts at 14 days.
The board considered a recommendation for a new board appointment to be made in July; the minutes list Juan Villaba as the recommended nominee. Jan Bowden moved to approve both the new policy and the board appointment recommendation; Terry Wise seconded the motion and both items were approved unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m. on a motion by Gail Snodgrass, seconded by Jan Bowden. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Unicoi County Public Library.
