Silver Creek Township approves claims, adopts payroll direct deposit; flags vendor email fraud and reviews office tech needs

At its Sept. 3, 2024 meeting, the Silver Creek Township Board approved its list of claims and disbursements and authorized payroll by direct deposit. Both motions were made by Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen and seconded by Supervisor Ryan Nelson, and each carried on 4-0 votes.
Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen reported that maintenance crews are mowing ditches across the full right of way, will spend two to three days cleaning ditches on Baker Avenue, and have nearly completed shouldering work.
The board reviewed a suspicious email that appeared to request a wire transfer in the name of Thielen Excavating. After staff could not locate any outstanding invoice and called Thielen Excavating, the board determined the message was fraudulent; there are no outstanding invoices with that vendor. The board warned of the attempted scam and did not authorize any payment.
On technology needs, the board reviewed one vendor quote for a replacement office computer and asked staff to obtain a second quote. Vice Chairman Geyen recommended adding laptops for supervisors to the quotes. The board also scheduled a broader review of proposed projects and the 2025 budget for the Oct. 1 meeting.
