Franklin County to transition to Next Generation 911; dispatch remodel underway

Sheriff Cuyler Stoker and technical partners told the Franklin County Commissioners on March 9 that the county is transitioning to a Next Generation 911 system that depends on up‑to‑date geographic information and will provide richer caller location and profile data to dispatchers.
Representatives at the briefing included Adam McKinney, Chief Technical Officer from Bannock County, GIS contractor Todd Calton, and Haley Thomasson, finance and grant manager for Next Gen 911 contracts. They emphasized that accurate GIS addressing is central to the system: dispatchers will receive caller location and any programmed alert data (for example, medical conditions) during a 911 call. Stoker recommended the Assessor’s Office begin addressing newly constructed homes countywide to support the system.
Stoker also updated the board on the dispatch-room remodel: Solocom will move the phone system to a temporary emergency operations center this week, the room must be gutted and the wiring redone, and the remodel is expected to be completed by the end of April; Brandon Tibbits will be available to assist with the work.
Commissioners asked questions about GIS maintenance and the effort required to keep addressing current; staff noted grants and finance coordination will be part of implementation planning. No formal action was taken at the March 9 meeting beyond the informational presentation.
