Preston Area Chamber asks Franklin County to livestream meetings after survey shows strong support

Stevie Emerson, representing the Preston Area Chamber of Commerce, asked Franklin County commissioners to consider livestreaming or recording commission meetings and posting them online to increase transparency.
Emerson said the Chamber ran a five‑day survey that produced 245 responses: 215 in favor of livestreaming, 19 opposed and 11 indifferent. County Attorney Vic Pearson asked whether the survey identified non‑county respondents or repeated votes from the same person; Emerson said the survey could not reliably distinguish those elements.
Emerson also said fewer than half of the state’s 44 counties livestream their meetings and that, among the four neighboring counties she reviewed, one currently livestreams and one had tried and stopped citing low viewership. Commissioners discussed the request but made no immediate decision to change the county’s recording or livestreaming policy.
