Township allocates $83,506 in CDBG funds to Reservoir Road sewer lateral assistance and endorses Newry Pump Station funding request

At the Sept. 10 meeting, Blair Township accepted County CDBG Grants Coordinator Trina Illig’s recommendation to apply the township’s FY2024 project allocation to the Reservoir Road Sanitary Sewer Expansion Project and approved a letter of support for a neighboring authority’s pump-station funding request.
Illig reported Blair Township’s FY2024 Community Development Block Grant totals $101,836, of which $18,330 is allocated for administrative costs and $83,506 is available for projects (split between public service and slums/blight categories). Illig recommended allocating the full $83,506 to the Reservoir Road Sanitary Sewer Expansion Project to assist low-income individuals and families with sewer lateral tie-in costs; the board approved that allocation unanimously.
Separately, the Freedom Township Water & Sewer Authority asked Blair Township for a letter supporting its application to the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PennVest) to replace existing components of the Newry Pump Station. Solicitor Patrick Fanelli and Engineer Eric Banks said they had no objection; Chairman Paul Amigh noted the pump station serves some Blair Township residents and recommended providing a support letter. The board voted unanimously to submit the letter of support.
Next steps: allocated CDBG funds will be applied to lateral-assistance components of the Reservoir Road sewer expansion; Freedom Township will include the township’s letter in its PennVest application.
