Township receives $37,259.18 county grant for Gowan Ave; maintenance and clerk report updates

Silver Creek Township officials said they have received a county grant of $37,259.18 for the Gowan Avenue project and noted the county approved an extension for remaining grant funds related to a planned 134th Street culvert replacement, but no contractor completion date is yet known.

Maintenance staff told the board they will reach out to the contractor for an expected completion date for the culvert work. The board agreed that sharing equipment between townships is allowed provided a mutual‑aid agreement is executed.

The township expects a new truck to arrive in December or January and will keep the current truck until then. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to approve up to $500 for new tires for the current truck, but the motion died for lack of a second; Supervisor Andy Christensen said he may be able to donate a set of wheels and tires to bridge the gap.

In financial and administrative updates, Clerk‑Treasurer Alana Paumen reported West Central collected 18.95 tons of recyclable materials from the township in October and that several residents have complained their recycling carts have not been emptied on multiple occasions. Paumen also reported the township will pay a MATIT workers’ compensation premium of $7,580.00 at the end of the month.

Next steps: maintenance will contact contractors about the culvert timeline; staff will draft and sign mutual‑aid language if neighboring townships will share equipment; the board will track truck delivery and any donated tire/wheel options.
