Citrus County staff updated the Aviation Advisory Board on July 9 that the Crystal River fuel-tank replacement project has obtained permits and is moving to mobilization.
Todd Regan, the county aviation project manager, said the design encountered flood‑plain constraints that required adjustments for pump, motor and generator siting, but that permits are complete and "mobilization starts this Monday." To minimize service disruption, staff secured temporary fuel storage with assistance from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Regan said the project schedule remains roughly on track for a January finish (he referenced "about January 9 something like that" as an approximate date).
Why it matters: Crystal River is a functioning general‑aviation airport whose fuel availability affects flight training, maintenance operations and tenant businesses. Staff emphasized that keeping temporary fuel in place reduces reliance on trucked fuel deliveries and the cost and disruption that would cause.
