Shrewsbury to seek RFPs for nuisance lawn care after repeated code violations

City Administrator Dustin Ziebold told the Board of Aldermen on June 9 that staff will draft a Request for Proposals to establish a roster of qualified lawn-care contractors to abate nuisance properties after multiple notices.
Ziebold said the approach is intended to keep Public Works focused on core duties while ensuring repeat code violations are addressed promptly. Under the proposed process the City would pay the contractor for necessary lawn maintenance and then place a lien on the property to recover costs from the owner.
Board members did not object to moving forward with the RFP process at the meeting. No contract was awarded at the June 9 meeting; staff said it would proceed with procurement and return with a recommended vendor list or contract for future board action.
Next steps listed by staff include drafting the RFP, soliciting proposals from qualified vendors, and returning to the board with recommended contracts or a vendor list for abatement work.
