Morgan County DHS approves December warrants totaling $565,652.82 and $895,763.89 in benefit authorizations

The Morgan County Board of Social/Human Services approved two finance items for December 2024 at its Feb. 25 meeting, voting unanimously on motions to accept the warrants and the Certification of Provider and Vendor Benefit Authorizations.
Susan Nitzel, Morgan County Human Services accounting manager, told commissioners that operating warrants for December totaled $348,853.99 and direct-deposit payroll disbursements were $216,798.83, for a combined warrants total of $565,652.82. Nitzel said spending rose from November primarily because staff processed catch-up program grant payments.
Nitzel also presented the monthly Certification of Provider and Vendor Benefit Authorizations for December 2024, reporting a total of $895,763.89. She said there was a $10 difference from November, with decreases in LEAP payments and increases in OAP and food-stamp distributions; compared with December 2023 she said there was roughly a $16,000 decrease driven by child-care and food-stamp payments.
Commissioner Tim Malone moved to approve the DHS minutes from Jan. 28, 2025 and later moved to approve the warrants and the certification; Commissioner Kelvin Bernhardt seconded the votes and each motion carried 3–0. Human Services Director Jacque Frenier noted the department still has openings in the child-support unit and front office and reminded residents that LEAP energy-assistance applications remain available via the PEAK online portal.
The Board recessed at 9:07 a.m. after the social/human services business.
