The Houston Park and Recreation Board agreed at its May 14 meeting to allow Parents As Teachers to hold "Mommy and Me" swim sessions at Toni M. McKinney Community Pool twice a month on the first and third Fridays, board minutes show.
The decision came during public comment when presenter Viki Narancich asked the board to reinstate the program. The board agreed to the request and did not record a formal motion.
In other pool business, staff member Robbie Mortensen told the board that pool admission rates will remain the same for the coming season and that the pool has been filled. Mortensen reported staff encountered "a few chemical issues" after filling the pool and said he has contacted West Port to troubleshoot the problem.
Board members also recapped a recent pool renaming ceremony, saying the event "went great" and that the honored family was pleased; members said they will update the pool's Facebook page to reflect the new name.
Swim-team sign-ups were reported as live and ready, and directors' and financial reports were tabled until the next meeting. The board adjourned after routine business.
