The Greenlee County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 7 approved several public-works procurements and considered a land purchase to expand the county landfill.
Tony Hines, Public Works Manager (Facilities/Fleet), asked the board for authority to solicit bids to install lighting at the Duncan ballfield and to purchase an equipment trailer for the Roads Department. Supervisor William Wearne moved to allow solicitation of bids for the ballfield lighting; Supervisor Ron Campbell seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Hines recommended purchasing an equipment trailer quoted from Kraftsman Inc. for an amount not to exceed $30,000; Supervisor Wearne moved to approve that purchase, Supervisor Campbell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Engineer Reed Larson reported the county was the only bidder in a state land auction for about 91 acres adjacent to the current landfill and estimated processing and purchase costs at approximately $115,300. On Larson’s advice Supervisor Campbell moved to ratify the purchase "in an amount not to exceed $120,000." The transcript records the motion; the vote on that specific motion is not explicitly recorded in the minutes segment covering this item.
Larson also presented bids to erect a prefabricated metal building to serve as a new Public Works Facility. Larson recommended Focus Industrial’s bid of $49,800 after noting the apparent low bidder had not included doors and windows. Supervisor Campbell moved to accept Focus Industrial’s bid; Supervisor Wearne seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Larson requested and received board permission to solicit bids to complete mass grading of the fairgrounds recreational and ball fields; Supervisor Wearne moved to grant permission, Supervisor Campbell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps include solicitation of the lighting and grading bids and processing any final purchase paperwork for the land if the board’s ratification is completed in subsequent minutes.
