Council representative Otis reports trail delays, $30,000 fire department grant and schoolhouse repairs

Council representative Otis reported several city and council-area items to the commission.
Otis said Phase 7 of the trail is under construction in a low-lying area near Quickstar and that water issues have slowed work; the city expects to grant an extension on the contractor but still anticipates completion this fall.
Otis said the fire department received a $30,000 grant this year from Prairie Meadows Community Betterment to help pay for a new fire engine, which Otis said covers about 4% of the engine's cost. Otis said the engine was ordered in October 2022 and that delivery is expected this December.
The commission learned that exterior siding, painting and replacement of exterior stairs at the schoolhouse were authorized and that the project's bid came in significantly under the $100,000 budgeted; Otis suggested savings might be applied to removal of a north-side annex at the schoolhouse.
Otis also said the state department of transportation plans an overlay on Bridge Road (the Highway 415 stretch) that will likely take 5–7 days, mostly overnight, with a latest planned start date of the 27th of this month.
No formal action was taken by the commission on these council updates during the meeting.
