Liz Formos, a Ballston Spa resident, used the public-comment period to press trustees for clarity about a Saratoga County request for proposals that she said might relocate up to 20 of 30 county departments to a central location.
Formos said she reviewed the county's RFP and found it lacking in detail and asked whether the county intended to keep Ballston Spa as the county seat if departments move. "Does the county intend to keep Ballston Spa as the county seat?" she asked, adding that relocating departments could have "devastating effects" on local small businesses; she estimated roughly 500 county employees currently work in the village.
Mayor (speaker 1) replied that the village does not control county decisions but said he would work with trustees to draft a proposal asking the county to keep functions in the village and would keep the board updated; he noted that officials would be transparent with voters if a referendum were required for relocation of certain departments.
Why it matters: Relocation of county departments could change daily foot traffic for downtown businesses and affect the village's economy; residents asked trustees for information and an active response from village leaders.
