Jefferson council authorizes hire of two full‑time patrol officers; candidates cleared by Police and Fire Commission

The Jefferson Common Council on Aug. 20 approved Resolution No. 52 authorizing the promotion and hire of two full‑time patrol officers to fill vacancies in the Police Department.
Police Chief Richter reported that two full‑time patrol positions were open due to resignations in May 2023 and March 2024. The positions were publicly advertised and interviews were conducted with four qualified candidates from seven total applications. Interviews before the Jefferson Police and Fire Commission on Aug. 13 resulted in commission approval of the candidates. Chief Richter recommended hiring Sara Harring‑Spoerl and Benjamin Noeske; the Personnel Committee reviewed qualifications and the council authorized the hires. The resolution permits the Chief to promote Harring‑Spoerl and hire Noeske with effective start dates no later than Sept. 1, 2024, and initial pay pursuant to starting Patrol Officer pay under the 2023–2024 City of Jefferson Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Jefferson Professional Police Association.
The council approved the hires unanimously. The minutes record that full‑time funds are available in the Chief’s 2024 approved operating budget; no precise salary amounts were recorded in the minutes.
