Warwick County security center declared substantially complete; inmates moved in

Byron Sanders, the owner's representative for the Warwick County Security Center, told commissioners the project has reached substantial completion under an AIA form signed by the architect, builder and owner, and that closeout work is now beginning. "This document confirms that the intent of the facility has been completed by the drawings, construction documents, and specifications, and it is ready to occupy and utilize as the facility was intended to be used," Sanders said.
Sanders said the county has finalized warranties and maintenance documentation and recommended final billing submissions be completed in August so staff can review them in September with an anticipated last disbursement in October. He noted the project remains under budget and ahead of schedule, and that inmates moved into the facility the previous weekend. Sanders also identified a small $12,500 amendment for architectural services to be finalized.
Commissioners thanked project staff, legal and the sheriff's office for their roles in the build and authorized staff to proceed with closeout and final billing steps. Sanders emphasized that the county and contractors should review and finalize final billings before the last disbursement request.
