Commissioners move to correct social-media posts, say detention incident occurred in Bertie County, not Cumberland

Commissioner Glenn Adams told the board that false information about a detention-facility incident was circulating on social media and asked that the county public information officer post a clarification.
"I talked to the sheriff earlier because I had had some constituents reach out about some false information that was circulating on social media about an incident at our detention facility," Commissioner Henry Tyson said. "It's in fact in Bertie County. It's not here in Cumberland."
Tyson said the sheriff planned to have his PIO respond and urged the county PIO to coordinate a correction so the misinformation would not continue to spread. Adams said the county should make clear there was "no issue with the Sheriff's Department" in Cumberland and leave incident-specific detail to the sheriff's office.
County Manager Clarence Greer and county staff were asked to work with the sheriff's public information officer and to prepare a county communication for release that afternoon.
The board did not take formal action on the substance of the reported incident; members instead requested that public information channels be used to correct the record.
