Board approves tree removal cost-sharing, sidewalk payment and petitions for county road funds

The Village Board on Aug. 4 approved multiple maintenance and infrastructure items raised by Maintenance official Keith Leitzinger.
Leitzinger reported crews had trimmed and removed trees blocking driver sightlines and said a lightning-struck tree in the square park is being monitored and does not require removal at this time. The board unanimously approved removing a village-owned tree with branches overhanging a home on Third Street and agreed to split the cost with the homeowner (motion by Robert McLimans; seconded by Chasity Allen).
Leitzinger told the board a storm drain on Pleasant Street needs replacement and that the intersection of County A and 1st Street will require repair; McLimans asked him to obtain cost estimates for inclusion in the 2026 budget. The board also unanimously approved paying one-half the cost of sidewalk replacement at 628 4th Street (motion by McLimans; seconded by Alan Mergen).
Separately, the board voted unanimously to complete, sign and return the petition for 2026 County Aid Construction funds to the Grant County Highway Department (motion by Dennis Moris; seconded by Michelle Atterbury), a procedural step to seek county support for road improvements.
Leitzinger was congratulated for obtaining the Department of Natural Resources Municipal Waterworks Operator Certification during the meeting.
