Committee approves updated handbooks with minor edits; accepts donations and welcomes new food service director

The Marlborough School Committee on June 23 approved updated student handbooks for the 2026–27 school year with a set of minor edits and formatting requests, accepted three donations for student activities, and welcomed incoming food service director Matt Parry.

Handbooks: District staff presented small calendar and title updates for K–8 and the more substantive high‑school handbook changes. Committee members requested three specific edits before publication: change an athletic policy reference from a numeric code to the letter code 'JP', revise social‑media language for alignment with current policy, and relocate a line about principal discretion on alternative academic pathways for page formatting. Catherine moved to approve the handbooks with those amendments; the motion carried by roll call.

Donations: The committee approved three donations to support student activities: O'Connor Studio — $1,015.17 for Richard School; Global Companies LLC — $1,500 for high‑school student activities; and O'Connor Studio — $965.15 for Kane School programming. Each donation was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.

Personnel and farewells: District leaders introduced Matt Parry as the incoming food service director, starting July 1. Parry said he hoped to "elevate" meal quality and that "my door is always open" for colleagues. Committee members and staff thanked retiring food‑service leader Pam Will for 25 years of service; Pam offered remarks of gratitude about her time in Marlborough.

Public comment: Solochna Modor praised the district’s support for robotics and noted that her son was able to receive gluten‑free vegetarian lunches daily — she thanked staff for accommodating dietary needs.
