Cedartown commission to consider four-way stop at Cave Spring Street after safety review

City Manager Edward Guzman told the Cedartown City Commission at a Jan. 6 work session that the intersection of W. Girard Avenue and Cave Spring Street has safety issues that warrant further consideration.
Police Chief Newsome presented statistics on vehicle volume and average speeds through the intersection and outlined the data as the basis for discussion. Commissioners discussed installing a four-way stop and the public-notification steps the city would take if they adopt the change.
The commission did not take a final vote during the work session; the minutes state a formal vote on a four-way stop will occur at the commission’s January meeting. No specific dates or engineering countermeasures were approved at the work session.
The meeting later moved into an executive session. Commissioner Matt Foster moved, and Commissioner Sam Branch seconded, to go into executive session to discuss personnel, legal and real estate matters; the motion passed with all voting “Aye.” Afterward, Foster moved and Commissioner Ryan Casey seconded a motion to exit executive session; that motion also passed with all voting “Aye.”
The work session adjourned at 7:20 p.m. and the commission’s next formal meeting will include the scheduled vote on the four-way stop at W. Girard Avenue and Cave Spring Street.
