Planning commission backs rezoning for small hen coop at 3460 Stock Road

The Walton County Planning Commission on July 9 recommended approval of a rezoning request from R-1 to A-1 for property at 3460 Stock Road so the owners can keep a small flock of hens.
Applicant Dinko Sepek told the commission he and his wife plan a small, 6-by-5-foot chicken coop about 60 feet from their back porch and that they intend to keep four hens for personal use. Sepek said there would be no commercial activity and no larger animals.
Commissioners asked whether the proposal would include commercial sales or larger livestock; Sepek replied, “No commercial activity. No larger animals.” After public input showed no opposition, a commissioner moved to recommend approval as requested, the motion was seconded and the commission voted in favor with no opposition. The recommended approval will be presented to the Walton County Board of Commissioners at its Aug. 4 meeting for final action.
The commission record shows the request was limited to residential-to-agriculture rezoning to permit personal poultry and did not include commercial operations.
