Sedgwick County approves contracts, appointments and proclaims July as CASA Voices for Children Month

At the July 1 Sedgwick County Commission meeting, the board approved a set of routine items and recognitions that included contract awards, multiple appointments and proclamations.
Appointments and swearing-in: County counselor Justin Wagner summarized eight appointment resolutions for advisory boards (emergency communications, juvenile corrections, district citizens advisory boards and a Wichita Downtown Development Corporation appointment). The commission approved items E through L on a single motion (5-0) and several appointees were sworn in.
Board of Bids and Contracts: Joe Thomas presented five procurement recommendations. The commission approved the low bid from Wildcat Construction Company of $514,867.48 for a bridge improvement project; on-call remodel services were awarded to several firms with contract pricing for two years and options to renew; Whole Logic Sales and Service LLC received a five-year maintenance/support agreement for the health department at $145,000; a sheriffs office range upgrade was authorized (approx. $364,064); and Empower Annuity Insurance Company was recommended for the countys deferred compensation plan quote (five-year term). The board approved those recommendations 5-0.
Proclamations and community recognition: Commissioners read and adopted proclamations recognizing July 2026 as CASA Voices for Children Month (honoring CASA of Sedgwick Countys 45th anniversary) and proclaiming the City of Haysvilles 75th anniversary; Kim Gersten Court, identified in the record as CASAs executive director, accepted the proclamation and described CASAs volunteer role and need for additional advocates (about 83 active volunteers).
Next steps: appointed board members were sworn in and staff will implement awarded contracts per procurement timelines. CASA and Haysville were invited to community events associated with their proclamations.
