The proclamation recalled the congregation's origins in 1865, formal establishment as William's Chapel in 1868, the 1870 land deed from Radford E. Morrow and the church's evolving role in the community.
The pastor of Morrow First United Methodist Church, who was not named in the meeting record, thanked the mayor and council and noted that the congregation represents five different nationalities, serves about 110 people weekly through its food pantry and partners with nonprofit organizations. The pastor also noted that the city's police and fire departments have conducted programs at the church.
Mayor Lampl made a light-hearted comment about the church's barbecue and noted the irony of discussing an alcohol ordinance the same evening.
