The Cedartown City Commission on Dec. 2 unanimously approved RESOLUTION #11, 2024, to file an amicus brief in Chang v. City of Milton after a motion by Commissioner Sam Branch and a second from Commissioner Matt Foster.
Shortly after approving the resolution, the commission voted to enter executive session to discuss real estate, personnel and legal matters; the executive-session motion was made by Commissioner Foster and seconded by Commissioner Branch and carried with all voting "Aye." A subsequent motion to exit executive session also passed unanimously.
During the special call the commission reviewed several other items but did not take final action: City Manager Edward Guzman reviewed the proposed 2025 holiday schedule and the proposed building rental policy; Oscar Guzman, director of economic development and tourism, presented a letter from the Downtown Development Authority requesting $25,000 for improvements to 20 N Main Street; Police Chief Newsome described a five-year taser equipment plan with a total cost of $148,732 to be paid over five annual payments; and Oscar Guzman and Brande Coggins reviewed a proposed special event permit and related fees and policies. The commission agreed to place those items on the December agenda for formal votes.
The special call meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Jessica Payton and, after business and the executive-session period, adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
