Commissioners approve IP phone upgrade at 25 Daniel Street; SPLOST to cover capital costs

The Board approved a proposal from Pineland Telephone on Feb. 16 to migrate the county facility at 25 Daniel Street from a legacy telephone platform to an IP‑based phone system.
County Administrator Bryan Aasheim presented the capital and operational costs and recommended funding the equipment purchase from SPLOST while covering service and maintenance through the General Fund. Pineland’s written quote included five Yealink T54W desk phones, an ATA device for fax, one virtual number and seven VIPreferred seats; total nonrecurring costs in the quote were $1,211.94 and monthly recurring charges were shown at $109.92. After discussion of benefits and that this location was the last county facility on a legacy system, the board voted 5‑0 to approve the upgrade.
Next steps: County staff will schedule installation and charge capital costs to SPLOST while budgeting ongoing operational costs in the General Fund.
