The Bond Education Committee met Oct. 2 at the Bonnie B. Davis Environment & Agricultural Center in Hillsborough to review outreach materials for the county's bond education campaign and to set next steps for production and promotion.
Jan Johnson, an Avenir Bold staffer, presented the project website, said staff are monitoring website traffic and introduced the "meeting in a box" concept and a proposed 60‑second video with an accompanying social media reel. Committee members agreed to post a calendar of upcoming events on the site and to add an email contact for Kristin Prelipp for additional information.
Co‑Chairs Commissioners Jean Hamilton and Phyllis Portie‑Ascott led the session. Hamilton emphasized that if committee members distribute the "meeting in a box," they should make clear they are speaking for themselves rather than on behalf of the committee.
Frederick Davis, a committee member, urged caution about using footage of schools in campaign video material, saying any school imagery should be generic and not identify a specific school or individuals. The committee also agreed that paid social media promotion will begin soon and that yard signs are a worthwhile investment.
The committee approved the minutes from the Sept. 18 meeting; Frederick Davis moved approval and Anissa McClendon seconded. The minutes do not record a roll-call tally. The group set Oct. 16 as the next working meeting to evaluate progress and plan final outreach activities; an Oct. 30 date remains on the calendar but the committee chose Oct. 16 for follow-up.
A press release about the campaign has been issued and the minutes note three media hits to date. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
