Frankfort — The Franklin County Fiscal Court completed its fiscal-year business on June 30, approving a slate of routine and substantive items in the voting session.
Key approvals included two pest-control contract renewals (jail and county buildings), a roadside inmate work-crew memorandum of agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Franklin County Health Department preventative-services contract, and a memorandum with the Kentucky Urban Search and Rescue Team to allow a county firefighter to deploy with the state response team. The court also authorized the purchase of property at 112 Mary Todd Drive and approved a one-dollar-per-year lease option offered by Bluegrass transit for a leased van in support of the county’s transportation pilot discussed separately.
On community services, the court approved a resolution to apply for a spay/neuter grant on behalf of the Franklin County Humane Society; the group requested permission to seek up to $3,000 in matching funds for local animal services.
The court approved multiple board appointments and reappointments, including seats on the Sports Tourism Commission and the Franklin County Planning Commission; the meeting recorded several votes and one abstention on planning/appointment items. The court also approved a second reading of a budget amendment (Amendment No. 5) to close out the fiscal year and finalized cash transfers to road, jail and capital-improvement accounts.
The court also approved renaming the park at 67 Buena Vista to Buena Vista Park; members said the park’s historical name and marker supported the change.
