Mayor John J. Lampl II opened a public hearing at the Aug. 26 work session on the city’s tentative 2025 millage rate, which staff presented as 7.514. City officials said the adopted rate is the same nominal millage as the prior year but will require an estimated 10.78% increase in property tax revenue.
The hearing record shows the council has held multiple public hearings on the matter; Lampl said an additional hearing was required because the tax commissioner changed scheduled dates. No members of the public spoke during this hearing, and Councilwoman Dorothy Dean told the council nothing had changed from prior discussions.
The council conducted the first reading of Ordinance 2025-05 to set and declare the 2025 millage rate; the ordinance was scheduled for a second reading and adoption at the Regular Meeting on Sept. 9, 2025. The hearing closed by 6:40 p.m.
Why this matters: the millage rate determines how property taxes are levied in the city and sets revenue available for municipal services. City staff and the council will return in September for a formal vote once the second reading is held and any required notices are complete.
What’s next: Ordinance 2025-05 is scheduled for a second reading and possible adoption on Sept. 9, 2025. The council did not take a final vote on the millage rate at the Aug. 26 work session.
