Two Harbors council approves Beargrease license pending insurance, refers bag-ordinance request and appoints Dan Thewis to Library Board

At its Dec. 5 meeting the Two Harbors City Council approved its consent agenda, which included a non-exclusive license agreement for Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, Inc. to use the city golf course for the John Beargrease “Cub Run” on Jan. 21, 2023, contingent on receipt of appropriate insurance documentation. The council authorized the Acting Mayor and City Clerk to execute the agreement once insurance proof is received.
Vice President Councilor Glaser reported Personnel Committee activity, including discussion of hiring a patrol officer and active postings for Public Works, Liquor Store, Cemetery and administrative positions. Clerk Patricia D. Nordean summarized the Airport Commission’s December meeting, noting maintenance concerns and planned staff follow-up with the Airport Manager and Public Works Director.
A letter from resident Judy Sausen proposed that the council consider adopting a one-time-use plastic bag ordinance; President Ben Redden referred the matter to the Public Affairs Committee for review.
On a separate motion the council accepted nominations for a vacancy on the City Library Board and, after a nomination by Councilors Passe and Glaser, adopted RESOLUTION NO. 12-347-22 appointing Dan Thewis to the Library Board by unanimous vote of members present.
The consent agenda and the appointment were recorded as carried by unanimous yea votes; the license approval is conditional on receipt of insurance documentation before execution of the agreement.
