Court awards consulting contracts for $4.2M Safe Streets For All work

Deputy Judge Kurt Wiesen described the competitive selection process used to pick consultants for services funded through a $4.2 million Safe Streets For All grant during the Fiscal Court's May 26 meeting.
For sign and LIDAR consulting, the committee recommended Bacon Farmer Workman, which scored 100 points; competitors C.D.I. scored 95 and G.P.I. scored 85. "A point scale was used in order to make the decision," Wiesen said. Magistrate Puttman moved to award the consultant contract for signs and LIDAR to Bacon Farmer Workman; Magistrate Berry seconded and the voice vote carried.
For road-widening consulting services the committee recommended Palmer Engineering (100 points) over C.D.I. (95) and GPI (80). Magistrate Southard moved to award Palmer Engineering the contract; Magistrate Starks seconded and the motion carried.
County Engineer Nick Stallings emphasized his cost estimates covered consulting services only and not the cost of actual sign purchase or road-construction, which would follow later procurement and project design stages.
