Plaquemines Council approves $16M in fire‑station repairs, Duvic pump‑station funding and several permits

Plaquemines Parish Council members on June 11 approved a series of capital appropriations, permits and resolutions covering public-safety repairs, infrastructure funding and local business permits.
The council adopted Ordinance No. 26-80 to appropriate $16,000,000 from the Fire Fighting Capital Outlay/Maintenance Designation Fund Balance for repairs to fire stations parishwide. Council Member Chris Schulz offered the ordinance and Mitch Jurisich seconded; the motion passed unanimously among those voting.
The council also adopted Ordinance No. 26-79, amending the Five-Year Capital Improvements Plan to appropriate $860,000 for repairs to the Duvic Pump Station. The funding breakdown in the ordinance specifies $700,000 from Coastal Bonds Unreserved Undesignated Fund Balance and $160,000 from the Improvements—Drainage Canals and Pump Stations Parishwide project.
Other adopted items included: a resolution approving a construction‑permit amendment for Venture Global to replace marine and ground flare equipment and install a transformer at 20200 Highway 23 in Port Sulphur (Resolution No. 26-199); approval of a permanent RV park permit for Robert Buford (181 Eldorado, LLC) at 154 Eldorado Street in Buras (Resolution No. 26-200); renewal of a permanent RV park permit for Brent Roy (Venice Charters Unlimited LLC) (Resolution No. 26-201); issuance of retail liquor licenses and temporary special-event alcohol permits for local businesses and organizations (Resolution No. 26-198); and a gaming permit for Belle Chasse High School’s Color Guard (Resolution No. 26-204).
The council also approved Resolution No. 26-203 to issue a special business occupancy permit to Harvest Louisiana Terminals, LLC to operate a petroleum product terminal at 15551 Highway 23, Alliance. That resolution passed with Council Member Mark Cognevich recorded as abstaining; Council Member Carlton M. LaFrance, Sr. was absent.
By Resolution No. 26-205 the council selected the Plaquemines Gazette as the Official Journal for the parish; that resolution likewise shows Cognevich abstaining and LaFrance absent. The council adopted Resolution No. 26-206 approving the minutes of the May 28, 2026 meeting.
Earlier in the meeting the council voted to suspend the rules and add a resolution recognizing community blood donation efforts during the United States’ Semi‑Quincentennial; that measure was adopted as Resolution No. 26-197. The meeting concluded with an adjournment motion that carried at 5:04 p.m. (one no vote by Council Member Tyronne Edwards was recorded on the adjournment vote).
All resolutions and ordinances were certified for immediate release by the Secretary of the Council per the minutes.
