Valentine Economic Development Board approves invoices, advances local projects and plans nursing-home task force

At its June 23 meeting the City of Valentine Economic Development Board approved prior minutes and three vendor payments, heard updates on Creative District wayfinding funding, property purchase agreements and renovations, and agreed to form a task force to revisit reopening a local nursing home.
Board President Nadeane Allard opened the City of Valentine Economic Development Board meeting at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Valentine Public Library and recorded a quorum with Deanne Holmes, Tyler Brown and Whitney Mayhew present; Sean Markus was absent.
Whitney Mayhew moved to approve the April 28, 2025 meeting minutes; Tyler Brown seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. The board was told the Economic Development Fund balance stands at $990,382.01.
A staff update reported recent Creative District activity and that certification-grant funds have been earmarked for the city’s wayfinding signage project: $7,000 for standard kiosks and $22,000 for a digital kiosk. The board also heard that Nebraska Public Media taped segments including Friday Live and Backyard Farmer featuring local subjects.
Board members received updates on local property and facility efforts. Renovations at the Episcopal Church continue while the board searches for a provider for that space and works on a new collaboration between VCFC and Holt and Boyd counties. The board was also notified of signed purchase agreements for two properties at 117 N. Edna Street and 217 N. Ray Street.
On financial matters, Deanne Holmes moved to approve an Otocast invoice for $500; Whitney Mayhew seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Holmes then moved to approve an Outback invoice for placards totaling $400; Mayhew seconded and that motion also carried unanimously.
Members Nadeane Allard, Deanne Holmes and Tyler Brown each stated they wish to continue serving on the Economic Development Board. Finally, the board was informed that a task force is being organized to revisit the possibility of reopening a nursing home in the area.
