Hamilton council approves minutes; staff report repairs, grants and ARPA funds 'almost out'

At its Nov. 12 meeting the City of Hamilton approved Oct. 14 minutes unanimously, heard routine water and streets updates (including a repaired City Hall leak and planned Christmas-light installation), police and city staff updates on ordinances, grants and funding, and set a Nov. 19 parade for a state-champion softball team.
The City of Hamilton Mayor and Council approved the minutes from Oct. 14, 2024, by unanimous vote after a motion from Councilor Nancy Wall and a second from Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard; Councilor Greg Allen was absent.
In departmental updates, Ben Hood (Water/Sewer) told the council the water system is operating well and that a leak on the side of City Hall has been repaired with a new line. Terrence Mahone (Streets/Maintenance) reported routine operations and said staff will begin installing Christmas lights the next day and that limb pickup had no reported issues.
Police Chief Weiss reported that Halloween in Sweet Bay went smoothly and thanked Christ Chapel for providing parking for the event. The chief told the council he plans to present proposed local ordinances in coming months for the mayor and council to consider in-house rather than bringing certain charges to the state. He also said a new police vehicle should be ready Friday.
Under city reports, Mr. Wade noted sidewalk repairs completed by Ben and Ashley and said maintenance staff had removed wood debris on Hwy 27 and that the owner of a damaged awning had been notified. He identified potential grant opportunities through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for cybersecurity projects but said the city would need to partner with a private vendor to pursue that program. He said staff are still working on a firefighter grant and that ARPA funds are “almost out.” He also referenced new housing development activity.
The mayor closed the session with congratulations to the girls’ softball team on its state championship and announced a parade scheduled for Nov. 19, 2024.
