Powhatan supervisors approve CAD contract renewal, vehicle donation and consent agenda items

The Powhatan County Board of Supervisors approved several operational items during its May 18 meeting, voting unanimously on a contract renewal, a vehicle donation and consent-agenda resolutions.
Tom Nolan, director of emergency communications, presented Resolution R-2026-33 to authorize renewal of the Motorola FLEX Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) maintenance service contract for the 911 Center. Nolan described the CAD system as a core component of emergency communications and said the proposed contract would provide cloud-based backup, improved disaster recovery that would permit remote operations if needed, and more predictable pricing across the contract term. The motion to approve the contract carried 5-0.
Deputy Chief Taylor Goodman briefed the board on a retired EMS vehicle proposed for donation to Powhatan Emergency Support. Goodman said the vehicle served about 17 years as a frontline EMS unit before being reassigned as a spare and is now 26 years old and eligible for antique registration. The board approved Resolution R-2026-32 to donate the vehicle to the volunteer support organization, 5-0.
On the consent agenda the board approved minutes (March 5 budget workshop and May 4 special meeting), Resolution R-2026-30 amending the FY2026 operating budget by appropriating $25,000 in the Grants Fund, and Resolution R-2026-31 requesting state road acceptance by VDOT for Watkins Mill Section. County staff noted a correction to paperwork on resolution D before approval. The consent agenda passed 5-0.
