On Jan. 20 the Candler County Board of Commissioners authorized the county attorney to publish proposed amendments to the county zoning ordinance for public comment.
The first amendment (Section 801) would permit the creation of non-conforming lots for the purpose of adjacent-property land swaps provided the non-conforming lots are combined with an adjacent parcel and the swap does not reduce the size of surviving lots below prior or zone minimums. Administrator Bryan Aasheim said the measure was intended to allow certain land swaps without requiring a variance while preventing the creation of small, standalone lots. Chairman Brad Jones moved to authorize a three-week advertisement; Vice-Chairman Blake Hendrix seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
The second amendment (Section 808.5.2) would require persons who wish to speak at a zoning hearing to sign up at least seven days before the meeting. Aasheim said the change was intended to improve hearing logistics. Chairman Jones moved to authorize the county attorney to advertise that amendment for three weeks; Commissioner Tre' Ross seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
Both items will be subject to the county’s public-notice process and any public comments received during the advertised period.
