The Westbrook Finance Committee on Monday referred a proposed Food Security Grant Program to the full City Council after approving a narrow amendment to the draft.
City Administrator Angela Holmes presented the grant program proposal to the committee. Council discussion included remarks from Mayor David Morse and councilors Anna A. Turcotte, Gary Rairdon and Victor Chau; City Attorney Cameron Ferrante and Vice-President Michael Shaughnessy also participated. No members of the public spoke during the public comment period on this item.
Councilor Anna A. Turcotte moved to refer the legislation to the City Council with an amendment to remove the word “estimated” and to add clarifying language; Councilor Gary Rairdon seconded. The motion carried on a recorded voice vote, 7-0. Ayes were Michael Shaughnessy, Brian McCambridge, Victor Chau, Anna A. Turcotte, Amy Faulkingham, Gary Rairdon and Jennifer Munro. There were no nays.
The referral advances the proposal to the City Council for further review and any subsequent ordinance or appropriation actions; the committee did not finalize the program or its funding at this meeting.
