Finance committee refers ambulance billing write-off policy to City Council

The Westbrook Finance Committee on Monday unanimously voted to refer a proposed Ambulance Billing Write-Off Policy to the full City Council after a presentation by Brian Langerman, Deputy Director of EMS & Training.
Langerman presented the policy proposal to the committee and responded to questions from councilors and staff. City Administrator Angela Holmes, Committee Chair Brian McCambridge and City Attorney Cameron Ferrante joined councilors in the discussion; a member of the public, Daniel Glover of 90 Stroudwater St., also addressed the committee during public comment.
The committee took formal action on the item. President Jennifer Munro moved to refer the Ambulance Billing Write-Off Policy Proposal to City Council; Councilor Gary Rairdon seconded. The motion carried on a recorded voice vote, 7-0. Ayes were Michael Shaughnessy, Brian McCambridge, Victor Chau, Anna A. Turcotte, Amy Faulkingham, Gary Rairdon and Jennifer Munro. There were no nays.
The referral sends the draft policy to the City Council for further review and any possible amendments. The committee did not adopt the policy at the meeting; the next procedural step is consideration by the full City Council.
