The Montgomery County Delegation adopted an amendment and reported MC15-25 favorably, directing the Department of Commerce to study the tourist and visitor economy of the county’s Agricultural Reserve and offer policy recommendations to support small businesses, recreation and historic sites that rely on visitors.
Katie Hardy, chief of staff to Delegate Chi (the primary sponsor), explained that the adopted amendment clarifies the bill’s intent to examine both tourism/agritourism and the broader economic-development status of the Agricultural Reserve and corrects referenced agency names so the Department of Commerce can coordinate with appropriate partners.
A motion to accept the amendment was moved and seconded; the amendment passed and the committee voted to report the bill favorably.
What’s next: MC15-25 will proceed with a favorable report and directs Commerce to undertake a study; the committee record notes the study’s goal is to identify barriers to growth and develop policies to support dependent businesses and sites.
