Library Director Melita Tunnicliff told trustees about recent programming successes and operational updates at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Programming highlights included a successful Elf Academy, an ongoing Winter Reading Program that ends Feb. 7, an upcoming Library Lovers Family Trivia Night on Feb. 18, and a full registration for an after-hours K-pop film event on Jan. 30. The library also plans a Pokemon Day party on Feb. 26 (registration required). The director highlighted upcoming seminars by the Society for Financial Awareness and AARP Tax-Aide sessions running Thursdays from Feb. 5 through April 9.
On staffing, the board was informed that the library hired Kitka Galvin as a flex clerk; she started Jan. 5, lives in Le Claire, has prior experience at Cordova and Riverbend libraries, and is fluent in American Sign Language. The director said staff will attend community events such as Eagle Fest (Jan. 18) and the St. Ambrose culture fair (March 29) to offer activities.
Technology and equipment updates: six patron computers were replaced at a cost of $1,187 and all eight patron stations now use Windows 11. The library also acquired an iPhone for event photography, patron texting and app demonstrations at an ongoing cost of $30 per month.
What happens next: staff will finalize event registrations and share schedules; personnel and technology updates will be reflected in operations as the director transitions and the board begins the hiring process.
