Cohoes Traffic Commission approves temporary street closures for car show, Memorial Day parade and Rock the Block concerts

The Cohoes Traffic Commission on April 27 unanimously approved a set of temporary street closures to accommodate three city-sponsored events this spring and summer. The measures were approved on motions primarily moved by Fire Chief Joseph Fahd and seconded by Assistant Police Chief Timothy Keefe.
The commission approved a closure for the annual Cohoes Car Show on Sunday, May 17, 2026, closing Remsen Street between Ontario and Cayuga, Oneida Street from Remsen to the Ogden Mills parking lot and at Mohawk, Seneca Street between Remsen and Mohawk, and Mohawk Street between Ontario and Cayuga. The Recreation Department's Matthew LaBombard requested the closure; the commission also prohibited parking on the affected blocks for the event, scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The commission approved rolling and static closures for the Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 6 p.m. Columbia Street will be closed from Veteran's Memorial Park to Remsen Street, and sections of Remsen Street will be closed during the parade and for closing ceremonies after the parade passes Ontario Street. Matthew LaBombard made the request for the parade; the applicant said police escorts would manage rolling closures.
For the Rock the Block concert series, requested by Kathleen LaBombard of the Mayor's Office, the commission approved Thursday closures of Remsen Street (Ontario to Oneida) and Seneca Street (Remsen to the KeyBank exit driveway) on Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting, beginning June 18 and ending Aug. 6, 2026.
Chairman Paul Johnston recommended approving each request with the condition that the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) be notified of the proposed closures. On each item a roll-call vote was taken and all members present voted in favor. Those present were Chairman Paul Johnston, Fire Chief Joseph Fahd, Assistant Police Chief Timothy Keefe and Director Stephen Napier; Commissioner Stephen Hennessey was absent.
The approvals are limited to the specific streets, dates and hours described and include the parking prohibitions noted in the requests. The commission did not attach additional conditions beyond the recommendation to notify CDTA.
The commission scheduled its next meeting for Monday, May 18, 2026 at 2 p.m.
