The proclamation, requested by Bettendorf Parks and Recreation, notes the department’s role in local economic development, health and wellness, and year-round programming. "Whereas parts of recreation is an integral part of a community...contributing to economic prosperity," Gallagher said as he delivered the proclamation and named Parks & Recreation Director John Burns and Recreation Superintendent Meredith Fabrizius as recipients.
John Burns thanked the council and staff, saying the department supports summer camps, park maintenance and community events and will highlight activities on its social channels: "We're so honored, on behalf of all of our staff...we have probably over a 100 by time...our park maintenance professionals...they're the ones out there today cleaning out the parks," Burns said.
The proclamation asks residents to visit local parks and recognize the work of parks and recreation professionals. No formal action was required beyond the presentation; the council proceeded to scheduled public hearings and business.
