Cedartown commission approves Reindeer Run, park resolution and downtown lot purchase at special meeting

The Cedartown City Commission met in a special call meeting Oct. 28, 2024, and approved a series of routine agenda items, including a community race, a park resolution and a small property purchase.
Commission Chair Jessica Payton called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Meaghan Carter, listed on the agenda as a delegate, presented the request to hold the 4th annual Reindeer Run & Jingle Jog 5K on Dec. 7, 2024. Commissioner Sam Branch moved to approve the event; Commissioner Matt Foster seconded. All four commissioners present voted “Aye” and the motion passed.
The commission then considered RESOLUTION #10, 2024 concerning LWCF Turner Street Park. Commissioner Matt Foster moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Sam Branch seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Next, the commission approved purchasing a vacant lot identified as parcel C20-169A to assist completion of the downtown parking lot redesign project. Commissioner Matt Foster moved to authorize the purchase in an amount not to exceed $5,000; Commissioner Ryan Casey seconded. The motion carried with all present voting “Aye.” The motion text on the record specifies the cap as “not to exceed $5,000.”
Later in the meeting Commissioners moved into an executive session to discuss real estate matters. The commission entered executive session on a unanimous vote and later reconvened in open session after a subsequent unanimous motion to end the executive session.
With no additional business, Commissioner Matt Foster moved to adjourn at 6:37 p.m.; Commissioner Sam Branch seconded and the meeting adjourned.
The meeting record lists Commissioners Jessica Payton (chair), Sam Branch, Ryan Casey and Matt Foster as present and Commissioner Dale Tuck as absent. City officials noted as present in the meeting record include City Manager Edward Guzman, City Clerk Mitzi Allen, Finance Director Amy Orebaugh and Oscar Guzman, director of economic development and tourism.
