Green Township environmental panel tables reorganization; Michael Wood nominated for chair pending township vote

The Green Township Environmental Advisory Committee voted unanimously on Jan. 6 to table a planned reorganization until its next meeting on Feb. 3, 2026, and approved the Nov. 4, 2025 meeting minutes.
During routine business, the committee reviewed a sample sign from Gravity Designworks; Ellen Lessin said the committee will provide the content and Gravity will handle design, and Lessin and Cynthia Moyano will compile sign information for review at the next meeting. Michael Wood reviewed available New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection grant information and said further research is needed; Lessin’s earlier task to compile a list of grants was not completed and was also tabled.
The committee examined a spreadsheet of short-, medium- and long-term goals. Michael Wood recommended reorganizing the chart; Fausto Moyano moved to reorganize the goals and Christopher Sullivan seconded. The motion passed with unanimous assent.
Committee members discussed whether to form or use a Green Team to pursue Sustainable NJ grant opportunities but decided to postpone action pending additional research. Christopher Sullivan moved to table further Green Team action; Fausto Moyano seconded and the motion carried.
On reorganization of leadership and oaths, Ellen Lessin moved to defer reorganization until Feb. 3 and Fausto Moyano seconded; the committee voted to table the item. All oaths of office were likewise tabled until the next meeting. Matthew Fox nominated Michael (Mike) Wood to serve as chair, but the committee noted Wood is listed as an alternate and alternates cannot hold office without a change in status. Christopher Sullivan offered to become Alternate No. 1 so Wood could be eligible; the committee recorded that the proposed change requires a Township Committee vote scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026.
The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. after a motion by Fausto Moyano and a second from Matthew Fox. The next meeting is set for Feb. 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
What’s next: The committee will reconvene Feb. 3 to revisit reorganization, consider compiled sign content, review outstanding grant research, and confirm 2026 meeting dates. The proposed change in alternate status that would allow Michael Wood to serve as chair is pending a Township Committee vote on Jan. 20, 2026.
