City staff to correct and file Gilchrist Park National Register questionnaire after board discussion

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Punta Gorda staff told the Historic Preservation Advisory Board on July 7 that they will prepare a corrected questionnaire and accompanying documentation for Gilchrist Park's nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and will present it for signature by the city manager before submission to the state.

Planner Adriana (S11) told the joint meeting the item went to council on July 1 and council approved the draft application for Dr. Reichardt to sign, but some board members said the version before the manager still bore an incorrect name. City staff acknowledged the error and agreed to redraft the questionnaire and provide the manager with a corrected copy for signature.

Board members emphasized that, although the local submittal is short, the state review will return a detailed packet and additional documentation (ownership proof, appraisal records) will be required. "Make sure that these property appraisal records go with it," a board member said, offering to help assemble supporting documents.

Staff and board agreed on a short timeline: staff said they expected to mail the corrected questionnaire and supporting packet the following Monday or Tuesday and that a state review will follow. Members noted this is the beginning of a potentially yearlong process if the state requests more documentation.

Quoted: "We will have the new application or questionnaire prepared and get that out in the mail next Monday or Tuesday," staff said. Adriana added the goal is to ensure the packet is complete so the state will not hold it up.

The meeting did not record a formal signature or final filing; staff said they will package the materials and confirm the submission to the board.
